order About the novel: Oliver Twist unromantically portrays the sordid lives of criminals, and exposes the cruel treatment of the many orphans in London in the mid-19th century. In an early example of the social novel, Dickens satirizes child labor, domestic violence, the recruitment of children as criminals, and the presence of street children. The novel may have been inspired by the story of Robert Blincoe, an orphan whose account of working as a child laborer in a cotton mill was widely read in the 1830s. It is likely that Dickens's own experiences as a youth contributed as well.

About the book: Research suggests this copy was printed between 1890 and 1891. The book is in great condition considering that it is well over 100 years old. The bindings and spine are strong and can easily be read and handled normally. I suspect that this book as spent most of its life on the shelf and thankfully out of sunlight as the spine shows little fading. There is a signature written in pencil on the inside cover, Anna Bair, most likely a previous owner. The book is in such great condition that shows little sign of even being read. This would make a wonderful addition to any Dickens collection or a gift to anyone who might appreciate classical literature.
