This is a professionally collected and prepared specimen of Australian Fossil Echinoids With Bivalves, Corals & Bryozoans. The echinoids species present are Echinoid ; Monostychia australis (Laube 1869) & Ortholophus morganensis (Philip, 1969), Monostychia australis is the disc like echinoid, where Ortholophus morganemsis is the enflated echinoid. The Bryozoan species are Celleporaria gambierensis (Tenison Woods, 1880) & Tubicellepora coronopus (Tenison Woods, 1844).

The geological Age is Miocene, which is approximately 26 to 6 Million Years Old during the Belcombian Epoch. It was collected from the Morgan Group, Glenforslan Formation , Waikerie Area, River Murray District, South Australia, Australia.
This specimen measures approximately 12.5 x 12.0 x 9.5 cm.
There are two echinoids, both complete, on this specimen along with several bivalves and corals, with the bulk of the matrix being bryozoan, a great example of Miocene shallow marine reef.
The term echinoid refers to animals in the Class Echinoidea. This Class contains some familiar marine creatures - sea urchins and sand dollars, along with heart urchins. These creatures are echinoderms, so they are related to Sea Stars (starfish) and sea cucumbers. Echinoids are supported by a rigid skeleton called a "test," which is made up of interlocking plates of a calcium carbonate material called stereom. Echinoids have a mouth (usually located on the animal's bottom side) and an anus (usually located on the organism's top side). They also may have spines and water-filled tube feet for locomotion. Echinoids may be round, like a sea urchin; oval- or heart-shaped, like a heart urchin; or flattened, like a sand dollar. Although sand dollars are often thought of as white, when they are alive they are covered in spines that may be purple, brown or tan in color.
