Manufacturer of bone china and earthenware at the Sutherland Works, Normacot Rd, Longton. Hudson & Middleton Ltd was established in 1941 through the amalgamation of two businesses owned by the Barlow and Chapman families and trading as ‘William Hudson & Co' and ‘J. H. Middleton & Co.'.
From the 1950s the business was run by fathers and sons Eric Vardon Chapman and George E. V. Chapman, and Eric Hudson Barlow and Grenville Barlow. Family control ceased in 1972 when the business was sold to Barker Ellis Silver Co. Ltd of Birmingham. Barker Ellis continued the business under the Hudson & Middleton name, but production of earthenware ceased in 1974 and in mid-1975 the residual Hudson & Middleton Ltd business including the Sutherland Works was sold to new owners including the former managing director George Fairweather. The new business operated as Hudson & Middleton (Longton) Ltd.
Hudson & Middleton Ltd were important manufacturers of domestic earthenware and bone china wares including tea and tableware, floral china, ornamental china and bone china mugs. Trade names included Delphine China (to c.1947), Sutherland China, Royal Sutherland, and Royal Kendal. The Hudson & Middleton Ltd mark was a lion rampant flanked by the letters 'H' and 'M'.
Refer to the images above to make your own mind and appreciate it. Featurd scenes are reproductions by English Victorian painter JOHN FREDERICK HERRING, SG (1795 - 1865). John Frederick Herring, Sr. (1795 - 1865), also known as John Frederick Herring I, was a painter, sign maker and coachman in Victorian England.
John F. Herring, Sr. is the painter of the 1848 "Pharoah's Chariot Horses" (archaic spelling "Pharoah"). He amended his signature "SR" order (senior) in 1836, with the growing fame of his teenage son (1 of 4) John Frederick Herring, Jr.
Herring, born in 1795, was the son of a London merchant of Dutch parentage, who had been born overseas in America. The first eighteen years of Herring's life were spent in London, England, where his greatest interests were drawing and horses. In the year 1814, at the age of 18, he moved to Doncaster in the north of England, arriving in time to witness the Duke of Hamilton's "William" win the St. (https://www.john-frederick-herring.org/ )
While living in the area of the UK with deep tradition of horse racing and close by to World famous Newmarket racecourse, I just feel obliged to have something horse racing related in my shop. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newmarket_Racecourse
Size of the dish in diameter is 27 cm and being quite solid it wights over 0.75 kg each. There are some firing faults (which are underglaze and marked by Pottery makers by golden paint) which are not obtained from bad handling or storage, as these plates are part of the display collection of professional long-time collector.
Could be used for their main purpose as a dinnerware to bring some style to your home, especially in case of dinner for two or to be used for decorative purposes of your home by hanging it on a wall, stored on mantelpiece or kitchen or living room furniture or perfect kitchen or hunting lodge decor.
Refer also to another listing of four dinner plates set featuring similar equestrian theme pattern with differentiation in the colour or if you require large number of plates, which with modern trend of mismatching of vintage china could be a great full set of half-dozen matching themed plates.

I do believe that this new listing will appeal to equestrian themed china collectors, foxhunting themed bone china collectors.
State of the china is in great vintage condition with some age lelated grazing on a back of the plates, which is natural reaction of vintage ironstone china of that age and that could be seen on images. Main fox hunting images on both of the plates are in excellent condition and are clear, vibrant and bright.
