Limberjack (one word) is another common name for a paddle dancer folk toy, also often referred to as dancing man. These little characters who can hoof up a storm on one end of a thin wooden paddle may often be categorized as a toy,but adults are more just as likely to play with and appreciate them as are adolescents and young kids.
There are three main components involved: the dancer, a dowel stick and a thin wood paddle to serve as a portable platform, all of which are included with basic instructions. The dancer's feet are dangled over the outer end of the wood paddle which is than plucked or tapped with the pads of a few fingers to start the action.
The dancer's body, limbs and hat are made of pinewood. The head is made of hard baked polymer clay. Two red thumb tacks are attached to the bottom of each shoe. The length of the dancer's body is 8", the width across including the arms is 3-1/2" and the thickness is 3/4". All parts were painted with acrylic paint. A clear matte finish was applied for protection. The wood paddle is 15" long and the dowel stick that fits into a hole in the dancer's back is 13" long. order
