Set of seven blue-green vintage Japanese glass fishing floats. At least two of the floats have kanji marks. Each float was hand-blown, and therefore unique. There are lovely bubbles and swirls in the glass. Because these floats were used years ago by fisherman, they have signs of wear, which is part of their order beauty and charm.
Choose between two sizes (measured by diameter):
2 inches
2.25 - 2.75 inches

Authentic glass fishing floats originated in Norway in the 1840's. Most of the floats washing up on beaches today are from Japan and other parts of Asia. Japanese fishermen started using them extensively from 1910 to the 1970's. They were used to keep fishing nets afloat, but due to wear and tear of the nets, many floats escaped and drifted thousands of miles and many years in the ocean before finding their way alongshore. For the lucky and determined treasure hunter, these floats can still be found on shorelines today in Japan, Scandinavia, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon.
