Batik Snail and Mushroom Original Art Round Circle Frame 6 1/4" - Original Wildlife order Snail Wall Art - Nature Wall Art Batik - Snail Toadstool
A sweet curious mollusk is looking about for a snack.
A sweet curious mollusk is looking about for a snack in this one-of-a-kind handmade batik wall hanging, done in shades of gray, brown, green, and red. He-she is framed in a round embroidery hoop that measures approximately 7 1/4" in diameter, 13" to the top of clear line hanger. The length order of the line can be shortened, if desired, by tying a new knot.
To create this batik picture, I sketched my own design freehand onto the fabric. Melted wax was then applied to the areas I wished to remain white. The fabric was dipped into the lightest color dye used in the design, then dried. Hot wax was again applied, this time to the areas I wished to remain this new lighter color, then it was dipped into the next darker color. The fabric was again dyed, and the process was repeated until the darkest color, black, was applied. After this dried, the dried wax was ironed out between sheets of newspaper and paper towels until all the of the wax was removed. Some areas were lightly enhanced with acrylic paint, and it was framed in the embroidery hoop frame. The crackling effect prominent in most batik art is due to cracking the hardened wax during the dying process, allowing some of the darker colors to seep into the lighter waxed areas. Each picture created this way will be unique and individual due to the variations in sketching freehand, wax, color, and crackling, even if the same design is used.
