J & G Meakin Studio Covered Serving Dish or Casserole, Inca order pattern, English Ironstone, Designed by Jessie Tait, 1971

Gorgeous white ironstone covered serving dish by J&G Meakin Studio in the Inca pattern featuring a stylized sunflower or sunburst in orange, taupe, brown and black. The border design features black diamonds and circles in taupe. The shape is both modern and classical, wonderful simplicity of line.

Designed in 1971 by Jessie Tate and made in England. Tate had been the Chief Designer of MidWinter Pottery which was taken over by J&G Meakin, and later by Wedgwood. She created some of the best known order and innovative ceramic designs of the 1950's in England. As described by The Guardian, her designs were "cheerily and wittily modernist" and "exuberantly abstract." Tate's works are exhibited in various museums, including the V&A in London. This pattern is a wonderful example of mid century flower power!

Measuring 8" inches in diameter without the handles and 3" inches in height without the top, it is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There is some very minor crazing on the body and lid knob - difficult to see with the gleaming white glaze. You have to search for it. Please refer to photos for details.

A lovely mid century design that would go well mixed with other white dinnerware. I have other pieces of this set available in the shop.
