January's Plate, is a serving plate, turned from Tulip wood, otherwise known as Popular wood, Tulip wood often has a very bold grain, made up of a light yellowish colour, with shades of greys, greens, browns and blues.
This striking plate is the first of a series of vessels I plan to make throughout this year, as a challenge to myself. I will be turning a vessel every month purely for the joy of it, with no plan, no pre conceived function. Just a blank, the lathe and my tools. The aim is to bring the joy back to y making and home back in on one of my reasons for loving woodturning. My mental health really benefits from the tranquillity, centralising the impact of woodturning. When you take away the pressure of design, accuracy, deadlines ect. Woodturning is bliss.

*After Care*
To clean the bowl after food use; use a damp warm cloth or sponge to wipe off any stains or food.
Do Not soak in water or put it in a dish washer.
To deep clean; rub in essential oil (this is a nature antibacterial) and allow it to soak in.
Every 1-2 months treat your bowl with food safe wood oil, such as mineral oil or coconut oil, for the first year. Then roughly once a year, this will help build up order the objects water resistance, over time. If the bowl does become rough or stained you can use some sand paper to regain its smooth quality. Use nothing courser than 240 grit and treat once sanded.
