For historical fashion enthusiasts, this is a great book. I once had ideas of learning to sew, really sew, but life had other ideas and I moved in a different direction. This book looks to be a tome not only on the history of fashion and the details that changed through time, but also includes line drawings of patterns. I am sorry I can only show you a few pages. It seems to be an amazing reference for fashion and costume designers. It is done in chronological order and each era is covered with illustrations, patterns, text on details and quotes from contemporary sources. I was half tempted to keep this book myself and it looks to be a great reference resource even if I wouldn't understand half of it, but this is a first edition and I feel it should go to someone who will really get everything out of this book.

It has 336 pages. I suspect it is an ex-library copy as it has a library reference number written on the copyright page. But I don't think it was a public library. Possibly a college library? The dustcover is gone and it has been re-covered (bright red) and re-bound. There is a tiny sticker on the inside back cover of the company that did it. This new cover has done its job protecting the book so it is nice and quite clean. It measures 11 inches (28cm) x 8.75 inches (22cm) and 1.5 inches (4cm) thick. It is heavy at 1.6 kg before packaging so foreign shipping is a bit of a order beast I am afraid. I will check the courier services to your address as sometimes, it is cheaper and will refund any overages.

It is a 1968 first edition. It is in very good condition if you don't mind about it being rebound. I suppose some book enthusiasts would see that as a black mark in terms of value. But this book is all about the content. I am selling it not because it is a first edition and for its condition, but because it has to be one of the most comprehensive books of fashion design by patterns. To a fashion designer or historian, this is epic. It was obviously a labour of love by the author.

The pages are clean and intact except one. The first colour plate has come loose. And I did see a page with pencil underlinings but I think it was only one and cannot find it. You could easily erase those.

Please zoom in on the photos and feel free to ask any questions.
